Working From Home & Praying Together

Image
This school year has been very different from previous ones. With so many changes and challenges, sometimes it is hard to even know what to pray for. As the school year marches onward, we may be finding ourselves fatigued with the familiarity of working from home. This is a reality so many of us are facing this year.   While we may not be able to gather together in person to pray and join in community, we can be thankful for the technology that connects us and the Holy Spirit that unites us.  Consider these lines from A Prayer for Working From Home : As I rely on technology to traverse the world outside my dwelling, let your Holy Spirit minister to the souls and bodies I email and call. Though I am absent in the flesh, make others present with you through me.  How Can We Pray for You? The Nimbus community will be meeting online on December 1st at 8:30 p.m.(EST) for a special time of prayer. If you have a specific prayer request, please send an email to: office@nimbus...

An Incredible Start to an Unprecedented New School Year

Image
This year has been unpredictable to say the least. By God’s grace, we’ve been blessed with an amazing start to the new school year at Nimbus Christian Education. Last year at this time we had 4 staff members and 15 students. This year, we have 15 staff members and 40 students! We are fortunate to have a phenomenal group of professional Christian educators teaching a variety of subjects. We’re already getting some encouraging feedback from parents: " I appreciate your desire for quality teachers, and we sure are experiencing that with Mrs Korol!! Wow, she’s been amazing to work with! She brings lots of energy and enthusiasm to her role, and Hudson really enjoys working with her. " Mother to grade 10 student It really is an honour and privilege to serve various families and help them reach their academic goals. What parents and students are saying about Nimbus Christian Education

Image
Finding the right fit for your family makes all the difference in the world. From where you live, work, learn and play, finding what works for each family member is essential to everyone’s well-being. That’s why we get so excited when both parents and students share their success stories after enrolling with Nimbus.  Whether students need extra help, or accelerating by reaching ahead for an additional challenge, our experienced teachers work hard to help each student achieve their goals. It is an added bonus when both parents and students send us notes about how our courses have contributed to their overall success. Here's what they've been saying: “ Nimbus has done much to improve my attitude towards math, as each week I am able to receive constant guidance, and an update on what I can do to finish the year in time.  I also admire the way that this course ministers to students: there are devotions available, and the math work itself provides ways to think about God and how he...

A Year in Review: Learning Through the Challenges

Image
It has been an eventful academic year that could rival a blockbuster movie; but, the opportunity to learn from the challenges has made our team even stronger.  When we began the 2019-2020 school year it was full of promise and excitement. Our team continued to work hard to deliver quality online education as registration increased by 100% from the previous year. Various contract and part-time staff were hired to accommodate this exponential growth. We have been blessed with an incredible array of talent within our team, so we started featuring teachers and developers in periodic blog posts! There were over 400 students using our online courses as digital textbooks in traditional classrooms. Fifteen private schools across Ontario partnered with Nimbus which meant teachers were utilizing our resources to enhance in-class learning. In addition, there were various homeschool students taking advantage of our online courses with supportive parent educators and assistants. Our user-fr...

Exploring Accredited Courses with Christian Educators

As technology continues to evolve, there are so many opportunities to engage in online learning. However, investing in your child’s education means more than just meeting provincial standards in a virtual environment. Quality online courses taught by like-minded Christians provide an essential balance to academic and spiritual success. Completing accredited courses that are recognized by the province and post secondary schools can build a solid transcript. Regardless of the path a student decides to take after high school, having a strong transcript will support their endeavours. In addition to hard work and motivation, how a subject matter is taught is a crucial element to achieving success. Teachers who share your family’s faith in God will unashamedly exhibit the fruit of the spirit to support your children as they navigate through each course. Their professional expertise is naturally interwoven with biblical principles for daily guidance. When Christian students and teachers engag...

How to Effectively Choose an Online Course

Image
Online learning has been a hot topic over the last couple of weeks, but it has also been an effective method of learning for many years. This may seem like uncharted waters if your family is new to learning within a virtual environment. Fortunately, our team is dedicated to helping parents and students achieve their academic goals through quality online education. At Nimbus, we understand how inundated parents are with the influx of information. However, you can make an informed decision when you consider your options, objectives and ask constructive questions. The following are basic considerations to guide you through the process of effectively choosing an online course. Begin With Values Keeping God at the center is always the best way to begin. What values will the online course you are considering promote in your children? Are they values that will support what you seek in your home? At times you will wish to choose an online course that contradicts a student’s faith...

Relaxing and Learning at Home During School Closures

So much has changed within the last few weeks that have caused chaos in the world, our communities and even in our homes. While there is cause for concern, parents actually don’t need to panic about their children’s education. Despite the uncertainty, there are stress free ways to keep young minds engaged and learning at home. We can all agree that education is important which is why many parents are feeling overwhelmed with teaching their children at home. However, we must remember that children are resilient and have the ability to overcome challenges. Keep in mind that children are, in fact, used to being away from school for an extended period of time during the summer months. Typically there is an 8-week break before the new school year begins followed by a few weeks of review to get everyone caught up. Even though it is not clear when schools will reopen, there are plenty of opportunities to help our children learn. On a basic level, students who continually read, write and pract...

It is a Pleasure to Serve - An update on how many schools and students we are able to help

Lately the scripture from the book of Esther has been much on our minds. “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14b It seems to us that Nimbus Christian Education was created to serve in this time. It has been our pleasure to assist so many schools, students, teachers, and parents as they are struggling to figure out what learning looks like during a pandemic lockdown. Thanks to the generosity of our community we have been able to connect 15 Christian schools, 22 teachers, and 421 students with our online tools that will help education happen during this time for no cost. We have had the privilege of meeting and communicating with dozens of Christian teachers and principals to share what we know of learning online to better equip them for their challenges. This journey we are all on is not an easy one. Whether we are struggling to figure out new software, how to have productive video calls, figuring out what to do with ...

Nimbus Remains Operational During the Covid-19 School Closures

Image
As we continue to navigate through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, Nimbus Christian Education WILL continue to operate during the school closures. Since we operate primarily within an online environment, our students can seamlessly continue their courses after March Break. For many of our students and their families, there will be no change in how our courses operate. If you are a homeschooling parent you will continue to operate as normal. However, for students taking a course through a partner school or organization, the support usually provided through that facility will likely no longer be available during the Covid-19 closures. Please look to your email accounts for contact from your teachers about how these changes may occur. REMINDER: Students have been assigned Nimbus email accounts that should be checked regularly. Here are some changes that may occur in order to continue with your child's education: Communication Expectations All communication with N...

Helping Christian Schools Succeed in Difficult Times

We are living in interesting times. At Nimbus Christian Education we remain thankful for serving a great and mighty God as we navigate these uncharted waters. We are also very thankful for the support that many of you have provided Nimbus over the past years. Would you consider providing additional support during these challenging times? We're humbly asking, if you are able, to give an immediate donation to allow us to support Christian Schools across the province. With the closing of the physical buildings of all of the schools in Ontario, most of the Christian Schools are in the middle of a rapid pivot to remote and online learning. Nimbus is uniquely positioned to help them. We would like to offer schools our online courses to use for free; but, we still have to cover the costs. Our minimum operating cost for this is $25 per student. If you are in a position to donate we could begin offering this option to schools next week so that they can begin operating online quickly. If thi...

5 Ways to begin operating your Christian school remotely

With the Ontario government closing the public schools for an extra 2 weeks after March Break, it is highly likely that many private Christian schools will close as well. Schools are now contemplating operating online. God has blessed Nimbus Christian Education with experience operating online, and we would like to bless others. With that in mind here are 5 things you can start with as you begin to contemplate operating online. Recognize that whatever online learning experiences you offer will NOT be as good as your in-class experience. It takes time and experience to create first-class online experiences. Know this, accept it, live with it. Then go do the very best you can. Begin with your staff. Make sure every staff member has the equipment they need. Laptop (Not phone or tablet. Laptops are better for productive work.) Stable High speed WiFi (If they don’t have this at home, can they work from school?) Headset and microphone. Do NOT rely on built in sound on any devic...

Building on the Dream through Innovative Fundraising

As the opportunities for 21st century learning continually evolve, we dream of building Christian education resources for all students. At Nimbus, our team remains focussed on developing and distributing online educational tools to enhance traditional classrooms and homeschools. Since our inception, we have gratefully received donations to help offset the rising costs that come with providing quality online Christian education. Fortunately, there is an innovative fundraising tool that allows anyone to support Nimbus while doing everyday shopping: FlipGive! FlipGive simplifies the process of fundraising by allowing cash back for everyday purchases online and in stores. While there are an overwhelming amount of other fundraising tools available, this one doesn’t require you to purchase a specific item. Simply download the app or the web browser extension, join our team and start shopping. It really is that easy. Our team earns cash back when you make purchases at a variety of popular sh...
