How to Effectively Choose an Online Course

Online learning has been a hot topic over the last couple of weeks, but it has also been an effective method of learning for many years. This may seem like uncharted waters if your family is new to learning within a virtual environment. Fortunately, our team is dedicated to helping parents and students achieve their academic goals through quality online education.

At Nimbus, we understand how inundated parents are with the influx of information. However, you can make an informed decision when you consider your options, objectives and ask constructive questions.

The following are basic considerations to guide you through the process of effectively choosing an online course.

Begin With Values
Keeping God at the center is always the best way to begin. What values will the online course you are considering promote in your children? Are they values that will support what you seek in your home? At times you will wish to choose an online course that contradicts a student’s faith in order to help them learn how to face those challenges; but, at other times you will want a course that will align with their faith in order to strengthen it.

Consider Your Child
Before you choose any program, consider your child’s needs and learning ability. While there are so many wonderful benefits to using technology to enhance learning, understanding what your child needs is imperative. Here are some questions to consider:

-What are my child’s strengths and weaknesses?
-Does my child need extra help with a particular course?
-What’s my child’s learning style?
-Does my child need an added challenge?

Ask Basic Questions
As you browse various online programs, keep in mind that all schools are not created equal. There are many differences with how each program is delivered and what is expected of students. Before digging into the depth of a course (e.g., examining the course outlines), start with your most basic questions, including:

-What is the admission process?
-How much is the tuition?
-Are there additional fees for books or lab materials?
-What courses are offered?
-Are the courses accredited or non-accredited?

Trust God
Your children are a precious heavenly gift and you have been given the incredible task of raising them in the way that they should go. And, that way should always lead them to Christ. So, as you research various online options remember to ask God to direct your path. Trust that He will lead you in the right direction and put your student on the path to success.
