Meet our Course Developer - Matthew West


We ended 2019 by starting a new series that highlights our incredible team. Now it’s time to meet another instrumental member of Nimbus Christian Education! 

Matthew West developed a passion for learning about God's creation and sharing his understanding with others while studying at Redeemer University College. Seven years of teaching in the classroom has taught him that the "Eureka" moment is a prized treasure. Matthew strives to make new concepts more appetizing and easier to digest, leaving a better understanding and desire to know more. Matthew West is a course developer and has been with Nimbus since 2016.

As a course developer Matthew enjoys creating online content which includes videos and applets. These interactive features provide a unique opportunity for students to learn in a collaborative and engaging environment. Matthew takes great pride in the results of his work that continue to make a lasting impact with students across Ontario. He believes that online learning is an effective method to learn new skills, particularly when you connect with knowledgeable professionals. To be successful with online learning, he recommends scheduling some time each day and don’t assume that you can do more work later. If you’re still building on your organizational skills, make arrangements with your parent, coach or teacher to help you stay accountable.

Interesting Facts About Matthew
  • Matthew is starting off the new year by teaching grade 11 Physics at Nimbus.
  • Physics is Matthew’s favourite subject because he believes you need all the other subjects to succeed: Math to guide, English to communicate, Computer Science to view ahead, Philosophy to understand what the results mean; and, Religion to guide.
  • Matthew is intrigued with trains.

Supporting Students with IEP’s and Special Needs

Learning new concepts can be difficult for any student, but there are some unique challenges for those diagnosed with a learning disability. However, there are many opportunities for students of all abilities to excel on their academic journey.   Whether your child has been diagnosed with a learning disability or is a struggling learner, it’s natural to feel uncertain about their future. Some learning challenges are not as obvious as others, so students may suffer in silence and become lost in a traditional classroom. Meet Our Math Teacher - Karen Timson

Above all else, each of our team members loves God and remains dedicated to helping students achieve their academic goals.  As Nimbus continues to grow, we’re excited about periodically highlighting our amazing team members. Today we are pleased to introduce one of our extraordinary senior math teachers, Karen Timson! Karen has worked for the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) throughout her teaching career in a variety of roles. In addition to teaching math, Karen has held leadership and consulting roles in the mathematics department.
