Updating Online Courses With Consistent Quality Control

Image
Online courses can be convenient and easy to access, but quality control is essential. For students learning remotely it is imperative to maintain high standards of quality to ensure their academic needs are effectively met. In this fast paced technological world, it may seem like we have access to the most updated content on any given subject matter. However, simply having quick online access to information does not guarantee that it is accurate. Online learning can be challenging if the information you need is not readily available. The same can be true for outdated information that is easily accessible online. There is often a misconception with younger students who assume that if it’s online then it must be accurate. Students who are learning a new concept or researching for an assignment rely heavily on the internet for information. Even something as minor as a grammatical error can change the meaning of a sentence and ultimately affect how well students comprehend the topic. Less...

HE IS RISEN!

Image
As we celebrate the amazing grace of Jesus’ death and resurrection, let's also reflect on this premise: God is who He says He is, and He does what He says He’ll do. Christ told His disciples what would happen that first Easter, although they did not understand it at the time. As the Old Testament foretold, Christ died and rose again! Hallelujah! The Bible also says that He hears and answers prayer. Those of us who have been gathering to pray for the Nimbus community can certainly testify that God does hear and He does answer prayer. May you be encouraged this month to hear some of the ways God has answered prayers in our community: Spiritually: we have seen peace, joy, and grace grow in difficult, unexpected situations. Financially: we have seen God’s providence meet specific financial needs. Physically: we have seen healing and quick recoveries, aided by skillful doctors. Relationally: we have seen friends, family, and ourselves grow and appreciate the daily gifts of God. We m...

Nimbus Students Continue Succeeding Throughout the Pandemic

Image
Over the past year online learning has pivoted to the forefront of education across all grade levels. Although online education has been on the rise for several years, the global pandemic caused even more students and educators to embrace it quickly. One year later, Nimbus students continue to achieve high rates in online course completion. In 2019 when the Ontario government proposed mandatory e-learning for secondary students, there was an initial hesitation from teachers, parents and politicians. There were natural concerns about the effectiveness of learning online based on outdated research. However, according to the Canadian eLearning Network (CANeLearn), recent data indicates most e-learning students are as or more successful than classroom only learning . Much of the concern came from previous reports of 50-70% completion rates for online courses. Fortunately those rates have increased based on the new models that incorporate a more balanced approach to online learning. Nimbus...
